PostSubject: condensation lids   Mon Feb 25, 2008 12:53 pm

I have been mooching about on the various online sites that sell fish stuff and have seen that you can get something called condensation lids.

It says that is stops water loss due to condensation, stops it getting on the lights, keeps the water at a steady temperature. Does anyone use these? I have never heard of them before and dont know if I need one or not. What do you think?

hiya jammy. i used to have a condensation lid on my tropical tank, and it does cut down a lot on the water loss quite a bit.

I found it a bit of a pain, mainly due to how my tank lid is set up (wont bother you with that story!), and dont use it now.

After a while (IME) they warp with the heat from the lights so if you do get one, remember to turn it over once a week when you water change then it'll stay even

Well my AquaOne tanks all came with condensation lids over the lights even though I didn't know what they were for initially. I just left them attached as they've never been a problem. Smile

I've got a cover over the lights too. Is that what a condensation lid is? The ones I have seen seem to cover the whole of the tank, not just the lights?

Well the ones I have seen (and had) are like a firm ridged plastic sheet sheet that completely covers the tank, like a second lid. It fits on top of the tank, underneath the real lid, and keeps the heat in - like a sort of fishy double glazing I guess! Very Happy

Mine just cover the lights too so maybe that's like a mini-condensation cover. Smile

Mmmm, I have a cover over the lights, but as mentioned these seem to cover the whole of the tank, as an extra lid.

I'll have a bit of a think about it - thanks everyone Very Happy

Think about it but think if you do actually lose that much water from evaporation Very Happy
