PostSubject: Plastic plants   Mon Apr 14, 2008 2:53 pm

I went out at the weekend and bought a load of plastic plants to give the tank a bit of a heavily planted feel. I am worried now though if I have done the wrong thing.

I have put all the plants in but some are quite close to the heater. Are they likely to melt when the heater comes on? Its not on all the time as the room the tank is in is quite warm, but I dont want to poison the water with melted plastic!

If you are worried, then just leave a bit of a space between the two - say an inch or so, but as GD says, I cant see there being much of a problem.

Oh I wouldn't worry too much, bettababy. The outside of the heater is actually surprisingly cool and I'm sure the plastic plants are of a high-temperature grade plastic so they should be fine. Wink

The only thing to watch out for (speaking from experience) is that fish can sometimes get stuck in them as they are not soft like real plants. Just something to keep an eye on, don't mean to scare you Smile

I think that happened to one of Marys bettas didnt it? I would have thought that they would have been able to swim out but obviously not!

Shocked Yes, it was my Pearl Gourami so I wouldn't recommend densely leaved ones as they don't sway in the water current like normal plants which is prob why my fish got stuck. Sad
